WHAT DO YOU think about two of the stars at Detroit Motor Show 2002?

· IS THE NEW Ford GT40 just cool - or is it a clumsy attempt to get positive publicity?
· IS THE CADILLAC Cien even cooler - or does the design just look like a driving box made in kindergarten?

It is interesting to study the technique and figures of the two Detroit stars: Both absolute supercars, both midengine, both extremely powerful - but one leaning on old times glory - the other one pointing directly into the feature.
Which one is cool? Which one’s cold?

This is the question sportscartesting.com asked journalist colleagues around the world. And the answer:

65 percent say the GT40 is cool
35 percent think the Cien is cool

This is some of the comments:

HE VOTED FOR GT40
Daniele P.M. Pellegrini
freelance, Italy
”As Italian I had to prefer the GT40 for the history, the shape and because the fiery battle with Ferrari; but I personally can accept a real new GT40 or at least e true recreation by the factory. This seems a look-a-like, as a GTD or a Foreman, more, with a blower in Bentley Le Mans style.
Cadillac is a very interesting piece of iron (sorry, carbon fibre) but what about soul?”

THEY VOTED FOR CIEN
Torben Arent
Berlingske Tidende, Denmark
”My vote is easy. I saw both cars in Detroit, and the GT40 leaves me pretty
cold. Just another retro - I prefer forward-looking-cars like Audi TT. I am
too young (42) to have known the old GT40 on the racetracks. On the
opposite I find the modern design of the Cien very interesting, not to say
fascinating and attractive. The design looks very much like a
Stealth-bomber, and that is OK.

Mike Monk
CAR magazine, South Africa
“My vote for Cien, because who's to tell if the GT40 is a fibreglass replica or what...?

...BUT CHRISTOPHE!
Christophe Montariol
www.autofastnews.com, France
“Both cars selected are cold.
The GT 40 shows how poor is the imagination of the Ford top staff today, having no way to build up dreams out of copying its 40 years old legend (not to speak of the T-Bird or 49...).
The Cien shows how embroiled the minds are today, when they try to design a supercar.
So neither one, nor the other, may have my votes.
Both are aesthetic nonsense.”
