THE NEW FERRARI CALIFORNIA
By Editor In-Chief Flemming Haslund
WELCOME BACK TO 250GTO
WHICH FERRARI IS the Greatest of all times? The Enzo from 2002? The F40 from 1987? Or perhaps one of the Formula One single seaters?
To me this is not at matter of discussion: The Ferrari of all Ferrari’s is the 250 GTO from 1962. Famous for its beautiful body, for its power and its line of victories – including victories at the 24H Le Mans.
With the brand new Ferrari California, launched Tuesday this week, Ferrari is back to the basic 250 GTO design:
Coupe body – front engine – rear wheel drive. The complete package not being too big and most important not too heavy.
But the California is a convertible you might remind me! Yes, you are right. But Ferrari might not admit it – but the Ferrari California is the first new small Ferrari in a row followed by the same car as a coupe – the car until known as the F149.
A true Ferrari is a front engine, rear wheel drive coupé, like the new Caliph… well, as the soon coming coupe version, Ferrari F149.
PS The front end design is very interesting – it is very close to the new Maserati Grand Turismo. Now and then it seems like Ferrari is “testing” new looks at the Maserati.
