HOW DO YOU tell the World of sports car friends you are creating the Absolute Sports Car? Bigger engine? Bigger wings? Bigger wheels? No, you create strange doors. Remember the original Gullwing car, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL from the beginning of the 50´s. Through times quite a few manufacturers have used the idea, De Lorean and Lamborghini just to mention two.
But today special doors seem to be the hottest fashion. The Swedish Ferrari Keonigsegg comes with doors you have never seen before, the Opel Astra X-Treme thunders down the straight with true gullwings; Lambo showed special doors at Diablo and now at Murciélago.
And now comes a BMW with another set of strange doors. German tuner Hamann is hand building the Hamann Laguna Seca II. But the doors are just one feature – the performance is another. V12 power, 480bhp and 312km/h. It seems like the gull is really flying.
