OPEL HAS PARKED a showstopper as strong as the fastest Porsches at the Essen stand: the Eco-Speedster. The figures and the carbonfibre bodywork covering the Speedster chassis look impressive. However, the real purpose of the car is to prepare the buyers for Opels new radical diesel engines. The Germans are launching four new diesel power units the coming year.
Powering the Eco Speedster is Opels first common-rail diesel, a baby 1.3-litre engine co-developed with Fiat. With a 112 HP in concept form and a weight of 660 kg the Eco-Speedster is one of the fastest diesel cars in the World.
