WITH A BODYWORK looking like the 70´s Porsche Longheck special editions for the Le Mans 8-km long Mulsanne straight Opel (and Vauxhall) is one of the extreme news in Paris.
The Longheck Speedster is a 250 km/h (155 mph) sports car – and an economy car at one time.
The figures and the carbonfibre bodywork covering the Speedster chassis look impressive. However, the real purpose of the car is to prepare the buyers for Opels new radical diesel engines – the Germans are launching four new diesel power units the coming year.
Powering the Eco Speedster is Opels first common-rail diesel, a baby 1.3-litre engine co-developed with Fiat. With a 112 HP in concept form and a weight of 660 kg the Eco-Speedster is one of the fastest diesel cars in the World.
