DURING THE EVENT on the Sunday, I noticed that some of the other cars were running with co-drivers, I asked Edonis chief, Jean-Marc Borel if I could take the empty seat in the Edonis. Jean-Marc smiled and said, sure, why not? I did not wait around to see if he would change his mind! The Supercar section was not going to be timed but I knew that we were going up at full bore, so I immediately climbed aboard, next to Jean-Phillipe Vittecoq or ”Phil” as everyone knows him. Phil started the Edonis up and the people crowded around the car in the paddock area scattered as we moved off. Out on the famous Goodwood hill climb track, we accelerated hard for the crowd, and they cheered as the Edonis rear-end fish-tailed from side to side under power.
At the assembly area near the start, Phil is relaxed, always in control; we take our place in the queue, and chat with Jensen Button, who’s also waiting his turn. Soon the Marshals call us forward. We move up towards the line, helmets on. Phil gives the Edonis some gas, and lights up the rear tyres to get them warm. The crowd cheer with delight as the car disappears in blue smoke. I pull that harness well tight. - Snug as a bug in a rug.
