This new T-Bird is not competing with Mustang, Camaro or Corvette, it is a luxury cruiser. Yet the T-Bird can quicken your heart with driving excitement.
That excitement is brought forth with the very excellent all-independent suspension system. You get a perfect combination of responsive handling and a luxury, dampened ride. As Nancy Giolia, the T-Bird’s program engineer says, “the car’s main ride and handling target was Jaguar’s pricey XK8-a quiet, substantial luxury roadster offering crisp, if not racecar-like handling, and a supple ride.” “When you want to have fun in the curves, you can have fun,” she explains. “When you want it to go, it goes.”
Frankly, we weren’t expecting the resulting strong (for it’s class) handling prowess. When you’re cruising the highway at speed, the ride is very good. The car is tied down enough to feel it’s right on, given the car’s mission in life, and actually a bit sportier than we initially expected.”
